Gemini is a large language model (LLM) from Google. It's a versatile, creative engine that can be applied to nearly any task involving information, language, or ideas. It's like having a universal research assistant, a creative partner, and a tutor all in one. You can use it to:
- Lesson Plan: Brainstorm engaging hooks, develop project-based learning units from scratch, or align activities to curriculum standards.
- Create Materials: Generate practice problems, design rubrics, write case studies, or create role-playing scenarios for any subject.
- Streamline Communications: Draft parent emails, write letters of recommendation, or summarize meeting notes.
🏫 SchoolAI - Safe, School-Focused Application
SchoolAI is a platform specifically designed for the K-12 environment. It uses a powerful LLM (like Gemini or OpenAI's models) on the back end but packages it in a secure, easy-to-use interface with built-in safeguards and tools tailored for educators.
- Key Feature: SchoolAI provides pre-built templates and teacher-focused tools. Instead of starting with a blank chat box like in Gemini, a teacher can select an option like "Report Card Comment Generator," "IEP Goal Assistant," or "Lesson Plan Creator." This lowers the barrier to entry and ensures the output is educationally relevant.
- Safety & Oversight: It operates as a "walled garden," giving administrators oversight and control. This is crucial for student use, ensuring interactions are appropriate, on-task, and CIPA/COPPA compliant. You can manage student access and monitor usage in ways that are impossible with a general-purpose tool.
- Focus: The platform is entirely geared towards solving common problems for teachers and students, making it very efficient for day-to-day classroom tasks.
📚 DiffIt - Specialist Tool for Differentiation
DiffIt is a highly specialized tool with one primary, critical function: differentiation. It allows teachers to take any text or resource and instantly adapt it to meet the diverse needs of all learners in their classroom. This directly addresses one of the most significant challenges in modern education. This tool directly impacts equity and inclusion. It ensures that every student can access the core curriculum, regardless of their reading ability or primary language. It saves teachers countless hours of manual adaptation. A teacher can paste in text, upload a document, or even just provide a topic or link. DiffIt will then:
- Adapt Reading Levels: Instantly rewrite the text for multiple Lexile levels, from elementary to advanced.
- Generate Resources: Create summaries, lists of key vocabulary words with definitions, multiple-choice questions, and open-ended prompts based on the original text.
- Translate: Convert the text and its associated resources into numerous languages to support English Language Learners (ELLs).
